In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, CIU is placed in the 601–800 band. In the THE subject rankings it does particularly well in Interdisciplinary Science and is placed 301–400 in both Business and Economics and Social Sciences. It is also ranked highly in the UI GreenMetric sustainability ranking.
CIU holds a number of programme-level accreditations:
- FIBAA: Business Administration, Accounting and Finance, International Relations, Tourism, Management Information Systems, Visual Communication Design, and Public Relations and Advertising.
- ACCA: Accounting and Finance.
- MÜDEK: Computer, Electrical and Electronic, Industrial and Civil Engineering.

Admission and English requirements
The online application is free. To start a degree directly, students need TOEFL iBT 65 or IELTS 5.5. Students without a certificate take CIU’s English proficiency exam on arrival, and those who need more preparation study first at the School of Foreign Languages.
Tuition fees and scholarships
All international undergraduate students receive a 50% tuition scholarship. Academic merit scholarships of 50% to 100% are also available, as well as sports scholarships. Postgraduate scholarships require a strong grade average. Scholarships apply to tuition only, not to dormitory fees.

Accommodation
CIU has 18 dormitory buildings on campus with space for about 2,800 students. There are several types of room, from studios to apartments for one to six students, with 24-hour security, and the faculty buildings are only a few minutes’ walk away. Many older students rent apartments in Nicosia or in the nearby Gönyeli and Hamitköy areas.
Campus life
Student life is busy, with more than 50 clubs, 30 societies and over 200 events a year. The CIU Arena sports complex has large indoor and outdoor facilities, and the campus also has a health centre, a dental clinic and a counselling service. With students from so many countries, English is the everyday language on campus.
Getting around
CIU runs free shuttle buses for students on several routes, linking the campus with central Nicosia, hospitals and supermarkets during term. Ercan Airport is only about 15 minutes from campus, and the university can arrange an airport pick-up for new students. Flights to North Cyprus go via Turkey, so check whether you need a Turkish transit visa.
Residence permit and health insurance
With your acceptance letter you enter North Cyprus on a student entry visa. After enrolling, you apply online for a student residence permit with the Ministry of Interior. A health report is required, including a chest X-ray and blood tests. Health insurance is compulsory: international students pay a yearly contribution to the state health fund, which gives access to public health services. Can students work while studying?
Yes. International students can take a part-time job with a student work permit, which the employer applies for at the Ministry of Labour. After graduation, the permit can be converted into a regular work permit with the same employer, which makes it a great first step into a career in North Cyprus.
